In her second documentary, *La révolution au bout des gants*, Cynthia Lauvergeon chronicles the journey of Nelsy Torres, an amateur boxer, during a time when women’s boxing was considered underground.
Internationally, the quality of the Cuban boxing school is universally recognized. This success dates back to Fidel Castro’s rise to power in 1959, but for more than 60 years, it applied only to the male population. Cynthia Lauvergeon follows in Nelsy’s footsteps, capturing her daily life while living in hiding and her resistance to sexism in sports.
Nearly a year after women’s boxing was legalized in Cuba on December 5, 2022, his work has taken on a whole new significance. As a historical record, it bears witness to an era and highlights the strength of today’s female boxers as they prepare for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
