News Brief – Documentary Film: *La vie devant elle*, Diary of an Exile

When Elaha Iqbali and Manon Loizeau met, Elaha was filming the ashes of a school amid the rubble of the Mória camp, which had been ravaged by fire. She captures life on Lesbos using a small camera lent to her by an NGO. Her goal is twofold: to preserve the joyful moments of everyday life and to raise awareness about the inhumane living conditions on the island. Released this year, the documentary *La vie devant elle* is the result of a collaboration between the filmmaker and the young Afghan refugee. It chronicles the Iqbali family’s wait, their journey, and their resilience. Told from a child’s perspective, it chronicles the daily life of a family on the winding path of exile, until they settle in Germany.
